Today I came across an article that talks about homeless with pets being allowed into a shelter in Long Beach, CA. This issue is one that Pets of the Homeless embrases with our "Pets of the Homeless Crate Project". You can read more about it
Jim Lewis, Long Beach Rescue Mission President and CEO, said "The issue of homeless people unable to seek services (or using their pets as excuses to not seek services) because they will have no way to care for their animal companions is a very real problem." Lewis added “There are two types of homeless people who have pets, the first is those who just became homeless and might have to turn their pet in to an (animal) shelter or to a neighbor. The other group is the chronic homeless. To them, their pet is their only friend or their last friend. It’s the only thing that they can trust, and it follows the concept of people picking up fellow strays.” The LBRM is using crates while their owners eat meals or spend the night at the emergency shelters. to read the whole article go to

Hello, There is a lady who has been homeless for quite sometime and she has a little Sheltie like dog with her that is her companion. I noticed the other day when I saw her that the dog was limping. I am writing to let you know she needs help. She normally sits outside on the side of Bristol Farms for the better part of the day. You can't miss her, she has all of her belongings in a plastic radio flyer wagon. Please let me know if you can help her of if someone else can.thank you
