BECOME A PET FOOD PROVIDER

Many food banks, soup kitchens and homeless shelters are distributing pet food to the homeless and low income who have pets. Your assistance to the homeless in your community is greatly appreciated. Becoming a Feeding Pets of the Homeless® Pet Food Provider site is another way to help. We know that providing pet food may open the door to provide folks a beginning to the journey out of homelessness.

If your agency is interested in becoming a Pet Food Provider, please use “Contact Us” with your information and we will enlist Donation Sites to bring you donated pet food. We will list your organization under Pet Food Provider on the website so the homeless can find you. If you would like a decal (Get Pet Food Here) to display at your location please let us know.

Homeless Shelters, for information on getting free sleeping crates please “Contact Us.”

Feeding Pets of the Homeless has transitioned Emergency Veterinary Care requests to an online application to help make the process clearer, faster and more efficient for pet guardians experiencing homelessness. Before applying, pet guardians should review the eligibility requirements listed at the start of the application page. This helps ensure they understand what information is needed before submitting a request, including verification of their living situation from an approved agency contact.Emergency Veterinary Care assistance is specifically for individual pet owners who are experiencing homelessness and whose pets are sick or injured. Feeding Pets of the Homeless does not pay outstanding balances or reimburse for treatment already provided.Applications can be submitted at any time and are reviewed in the order they are received. Care coordination takes place Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST. Feeding Pets of the Homeless is not available after hours or on weekends. If you need help accessing the application, a social worker, shelter staff member, outreach worker or trusted advocate may be able to help. Public libraries, shelters and community resource centers may also offer internet access.Apply for Emergency Veterinary Care:petsofthehomeless.org/emergency-veterinary-careFind pet food support near you:petsofthehomeless.org/get-help/find-locationsPlease share this resource with pet guardians experiencing homelessness and the advocates who support them. ... Hi, my name is Lucky.I’m a 3-year-old wire-haired terrier living with my dad in a tent on the streets. One day while we were out on a walk, another dog attacked me. My right leg became swollen, and I could not put any weight on it. My dad was terrified seeing me in pain, but without money for a vet visit, he did not know how he could help me.While an outreach nurse was helping people nearby, my dad asked if she could look at my injuries. She handed him a Feeding Pets of the Homeless business card and encouraged him to apply for help. After speaking with a case manager, I was approved for veterinary care!At the urgent care clinic, the veterinarian took X-rays and thankfully confirmed nothing was broken. My leg was bandaged, and I was given pain medication and instructions to rest while I healed. Now I’m recovering beside my dad, getting stronger every day and looking forward to running and playing again.Feeding Pets of the Homeless contributed $764 toward my care.Your support helps pets like me receive urgent veterinary care and stay with the people who love us most.🐾 Help the next pet in need! ...
